What about the implications of this doctrine for other groups?
The structure above in Guadalajara is the Mexican headquarters of the
Luz Del Mondo cult, of which there now branches in London.
It is only one of many examples, including the Vatican itself, of a church, in which the doctrine of a continuing apostleship, entails authoritative tradition alongside scripture, added to and almost always undermining scripture.
Apostles, or in the case of 'Luz del Mondo', the Apostle, is the only authoritative and recognised source of this enforced tradition.
We categorically deny this. The Apostleship has ceased with the completion of scripture, the only qualification for apostleship, being a direct witness of the resurrected Saviour, accompanying Him during His earthly ministry, Acts 1.21-3. The Apostles were attested by miraculous signs and the ability to confer those signs, 2 Cor.12.12, Acts 8.17, 6.6-8, 19.6. Paul tells us his late entry was eccentric and exceptional, 1 Cor.15.8. He is the last of the Apostles, 1 Cor.15.8. He too directly witnessed and was commissioned by the risen Saviour Acts 9.3, 22.7-8, 26.16.
False apostles are now common, Rev.2.2, 1 Cor.11.13, Gal.1.8, Mt.24.24, 2 Jn.7. They must be tested and rejected.
Anyone claimimg to be an apostle or a prophet now, agents of new revelation, should be anathematised, Rev.22.20.
Yet here too is an important litmus test of
any teacher or teaching.
Does the teacher appeal only to scripture for his authority, or draw from his own personal calling, wisdom, gifts, revelation or experience?
If so he or she is to be rejected, Isa.8.20.
There is no other final lodestone for testing truth, than God's own word.
The Lord Jesus repeatedly makes this explicit, Mt.22.29; Mk.7.7-9.
When the Redeemer is challenged about eternal life, His response is to direct the enquirer back to the Law, Lk.10.25-26. He doesn't finish there, by alluding to the Good Samaritan, he is alluding to a better righteousness, one even Gentiles may receive and live by, through One despised, though Just and Holy.
In Hell, the rich man is warned that his brothers will not respond favorably to Lazarus rising from the dead, if they have already hardened their hearts to the Law and the Prophets, Luke 16.29,31.
The Saviour's witness to Himself alone is challengeable, if uncorroborated by other witness, John 5.31, but He finds perfect, manifold and various corroboration from Moses, John 5.46-7, and all the Tenach. He calls His own loved ones fools for not recognising the plainness and clarity of this testimony, Luke 24.25-7. The matter is so indisputable, Moses himself will arise to condemn the gainsayers for their wilful neglect, John 5.45.
A Berean spirit will always check and seek this corroboration from the Oracles of God, Acts 17.11, not from intuition, inner light, personal preference, or a pretended new revelation.
Many other instances of this could be examined in almost every book and every human author of the New Testament.
So for rabbinic Jews, or cults, or the Vatican to subvert the testimony of the books they profess to follow, by adding revelation based on their traditions, kinship authority, or supposedly definitive insights outside of scripture is dangerous and malign, it insults the fullness of God's provision in the Divine Word, 2 Tim.3.15, 2 Pet.1.19 and undermines the warnings of the prophets not to neglect the Law's guidance, Mal.4.4. It is a prescription for inviting in hidden idolatry and corruption, as
Rambam's Hellenism amply demonstrates. Insights from other translations, interpretative traditions, commentaries, acrostic patterns, scribal practices, ancient ceremonies and practices, all may indeed be most helpful in disclosing local context and the understanding of obscure terms, but in and of themselves they are not authoritative in any final binding sense and must never be counterposed to the direct and plain sense of scripture. Nehushtan must be destroyed, as soon as it becomes a nexus for prayer and adoration.
How then do we know Isaiah is genuine?
Because he corroborates, confirms and completes Moses' definitive and central command for the need of atonement and mediation in all ages. A command only answered in the
glorious redeeming death and resurrection of the Passover Messiah, as the prophets foretell.
