Is Grzegorz Michalski the Gospel translator for the Trinitarian Bible Society?
The Trinitarian Bible Society has a storied past and many of the Lord's choicest servants have served under its umbrella in the last 195 years. It has valiantly stood for the glories of Christ's full Deity, the inspiration, inerrancy and infallibility of Scripture and the recovered truths of the Reformation in dark and difficult days.
All Christians owe a great debt, under the Lord, to its labourers.
Nevertheless, grave concerns have been raised in 2017 with the Trinitarian Bible Society, concerning the history of its former Polish NT translation that eventually required academic publication by Brother Peter Nicholson to resolve.
Poland has proven to be an
ecumenical and liberal mess that has shipwrecked or defiled many
parachurch groups.
Paper 1 on the historiography of the 1881 Warsaw translations of the NT.
Paper 2.
These points summarise the meticulously documented findings, published in 2018:
*The translation of the New Testament in Polish currently circulated by the Trinitarian Bible Society is
not the translation the Society for several decades claimed it to be.
*The translation of the New Testament in Polish published by the Trinitarian Bible Society in London in 1876 contained a number of errors introduced by Karol Węgierski acting on his own initiative in England and was rejected outright by the Warsaw-based committee that had produced the Gospels–Acts portion of this translation in 1873.
*The committee eliminated Węgierski's errors and published its own version of the New Testament with the help of the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1881.
*In the 1920s, the Trinitarian Bible Society substituted the Polish New Testament it had first published in 1876 with the version first published by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1881, and without making any changes to it began publishing it as their own “new edition,” calling it an “uncorrupted version” produced “after very careful revision.”
*This substitution was exposed by the British and Foreign Bible Society but was not properly acknowledged at the time.
*This was particularly unfortunate in view of the Trinitarian Bible Society's strident and sustained criticism of the British and Foreign Bible Society.
*Very little credit for the actual translation is due to Karol Węgierski; most is due to Karol Gustaw Manitius and the Warsaw translation committee.
*The confessional diversity of the translation committee, which included representatives of the Lutheran, Reformed, and Roman Catholic Churches, means that the Gospel of Matthew published by the Trinitarian Bible Society in 1870 was the first ecumenical translation of any part of the Bible into Polish and that the 1881 Warsaw New Testament was the first ecumenical translation of the entire New Testament into Polish.
*The Polish New Testament currently circulated by the TBS is not based solely on the Received Text, and was checked against a number of critical texts, and does not conform in all parts to the Scrivener text.
Serious concerns have been raised about the Society's newly published Gospel of John.

There is very strong similarity between the TBS new translation of the Gospel of John and Michalski's former works (here abbreviated
BBO and
SFD, links to sale site) compared to an independent Polish translation of Jn.5 (abbreviated as TOR), to the point of
identity in the overwhelming majority of verses. (Courtesy of PN)

There is also some evidence of colouring by his strong convictions, for example in Jn.3.17-8.

Brother Nicholson signalled his serious concerns on this matter to the Society on 9th January.
On 16th February was told,
'The translator is Protestant, evangelical, Trinitarian, like all TBS translators. Official information submitted shows his views on repentance align fully with historic evangelical and Reformed doctrine. There is no doctrinal problem with the translator...The translator rejects any "easy-believism" theology that denies Biblical repentance as essential to salvation as well as other views that undermine the true doctrine of repentance. The official information, which he voluntarily provided, demonstrate a thorough and Reformed understanding of repentance as essential to salvation. He rejects sacramental or Roman Catholic understandings of penance. He strongly emphasises repentance as defined in Scripture and in the Reformed confessions. Thus, the translator clearly upholds the necessity of repentance exactly as understood in historic Reformed theology.'
Peter Nicholson has since posed these burning questions to the brethren at the TBS, but has yet to receive an answer, but that the matter is under serious review.
* Who is the Society's Polish translator?
*In what sense may the Gospel of John recently published by the Society objectively be described as
new?
*Does the Society continue to maintain its assurances of 19th February 2026 that this translator upholds the necessity of repentance as understood in
the historic Reformed theological statements such as the Westminster Confession? [See pt.4 and
here]
* Does the translator reject 'easy believism' theology that denies the necessity of repentance for salvation?

A comment claiming to be Grzegorz Michalski on 15/9/26 asserts he is
indeed the translator.
Michalski is a trenchant, if somewhat inconsistent, critic of the TBS, the AV, the Received Text and Scrivener.
The KJV has as much in common with the Received Text as a pig does with a Guinea pig [Polish: sea pig], in other words it [a Guinea pig] has nothing in common with either the sea or a pig, and the name is completely unjustified and unwarranted because the King James has nothing in common with the Received Text."
King James ma tyle wspólnego z Textus Receptus co świnka ze świnką morską, czyli nic nie ma wspólnego, ani z morzem ani ze świnką a nazwa jest jak najbardziej nieuzasadniona i nieuprawniona, bo King James nie ma nic wspólnego z Textus Receptus. (4:08)
