Royal College of Nurses President

Dear Maura Buchanan,

I was very disappointed to hear this morning of the RCN's decision to abolish its opposition to murder. There is no neutrality in such a momentous area, and assisting patients to die will all too swiftly lead to actively killing the incompetent and the unwilling, for the 'benefit' of the majority, as it has in the Netherlands. The economic imperatives, however carefully concealed by their proponents by focusing on rare cases which evoke sympathy, for murdering the elderly and infirm will grow significantly.

By leading the moral collapse in an area of such strategic significance the RCN has created a precedence of enormous significance not just for nurses but for all the caring professions worldwide.

Shame, eternal shame lies in this path,

Yours sincerely,

Charles Soper
