'Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and
deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is
the time of the LORD’S vengeance; he will render unto her a
recompence.' (Jer
51:6)
José De Segovia is Pastor of a Reformed Church in
Madrid, professor of the Protestant Theological College (UEBE)
and
the International Theological College in Castelldefels (Barcelona).
He is a missionary currently
active with EMF has been
selected to host EMF's summer 'European Huddle' this year.
Mr De Segovia has been an active supporter and participant in ecumenism
with Rome.

From 26 July – 1 August 2009, in São
Paolo, Brazil, he was a prominent delegate at the Consultation
between the World Evangelical
Alliance and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity
(p.39 of pdf , p.78 of document).
By his own terms a consultation, is a step forward from an informal
discussion with the Roman hierarchy, in which 'we know what we want and they tell us what
they
want.'
One wonders what an EMF missionary wants from full throated ecumenism
with Rome?
In
the second round of the third series of 'consultations' between the
World Evangelical Alliance and the Pontifical Council for Promoting
Christian Unity,
held
in Rome, from 12-17 September 2011. De Segovia was again a
prominent contributor.
The second series in 1993-2002 was entitled, 'Church, Evangelization
and the Bonds of Koinonia' [fellowship].
or rather perhaps
The 2011 report noted:
'This
year’s consultation was held in a prayerful atmosphere of growing trust
and fellowship. Cardinal Kurt Koch and Bishop Brian Farrell, the
President and Secretary of the PCPCU, welcomed the members of both
teams and, after an update on the state of the Consultation, reflected
on the aspiration to continue to work in a spirit of Christian
solidarity.'

This clearly is an exercise in seeking mutual ministerial recognition
with Roman
heresy.
We have had concerns about EMF before, both over a fleshly act of Baal
worship
and over a delayed,
but ultimately forthright, response to very serious ecumenism
in Poland.
Far from distancing
itself, EMF has chosen to promote this ecumenical pioneer.
However De Segovia's activities have not been in a corner,
and he has
received,
under its former director,
and continues to
receive strong public and primary endorsement by EMF.
De Segovia continues to engage in high level consultations in [neo-]'Evangelical'-Roman dialogue that will conclude in September 2014.
It is clear he has been closely involved from the inception of these series of talks.
This raises immediate
concerns:
- Why is a determined and dangerous ecumenist like
this being entrusted with young students and workers?
- What is the current director fostering apostasy
for?
- Are EMF's supporters concerned about this very
serious sign of defection?
- It is another warning about the extent and depth
of evangelical apostasy in Europe: in Poland,
Eastern Europe
and in the UK
”Wherefore
I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all
men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the
which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of
God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that
after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not
sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking
perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch,
and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn
every one night and day with tears. And now, brethren, I commend you to
God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and
to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.”
(Act 20.26-32)
More helpful reading on the real dangers of
ecumenism here.

I am again highly indebted to
brother Peter Nicholson for bringing these
matters to my
attention, and much else beside.
